Graduation day marks the end of an era and is a time to celebrate with those close to you. The graduate’s hard work and dedication has gotten them this far in life, so don’t be afraid to show your pride and congratulate them with a big hug or a huge smile!

At graduation ceremonies, students will be separated from their guests and called on stage by name in an order that has been organised by ceremony planners. Each graduand will walk across the stage to receive their diploma from the president, vice-chancellor or senior member of the academic board. They will then be invited back to their seats to enjoy a welcome speech by the president or vice-chancellor.

When attending a graduation, you should respect the wishes of other attendees and not take photos or record video without asking permission first. This is a very special day for everyone and disrupting others could make them feel uncomfortable or even detract from the overall event.

Whether you’re throwing an extravagant party or simply a backyard barbeque, make sure to include some fun activities that will make the graduate’s day extra special! For example, you can ask guests to write down their predictions for the graduate’s future (where they will live, what career they will have, etc.) on small pieces of paper and place them in a jar for the graduate to open a year later for a look back. Or you can create a photo booth with themed props to capture funny or sentimental memories.
