Metallica has shared the full unedited version of their 1996 song hero of the day, along with a lyric video. The song was inspired by the victims of the Aurora theater shooting and those who saved others’ lives, and the music video was directed by Anton Corbijn. It follows a drug-addled youth watching television throughout the day and each show features some aspect of Metallica: a Western movie starring Kirk Hammett and Jason Newsted, a boxing match with Hetfield as coach, a game show with Ulrich and Hetfield as contestants. The remastered track is included on the band’s 2025 reissue of Load.
